In a recent class, we discussed how to put together a Self Development Plan. For me personally I found it interesting to listen to the other students in the class. I was rather surprised that for the most part nobody knew how to set goals, not only in their personal lives, but in their professional lives as well.
To be fair, I have a marketing background and from the start of my career, which was in corporate, this is one of the first things we learned how to do. This has stayed with me throughout not only my professional life, but personal life as well.

As a young manager I was responsible for 27 people. Every 6 months each one of them would schedule an appointment with me and we would outline their goals for the next 6 months. I found it interesting that most of them had brilliant goals and things they wanted to accomplish, but did not have a clue how they would get from point “A” to point “B”.
